The
castle of Prureaux is a big bourgeois building, very typical in the
area. It was built in the 19th century on the basements of ancient
living house. It is surrounded by pastures, forests, a poultry-yard,
a garden and other buildings of the site.
Several elements
characterize the site history: servants house, a glacière (or
‘icehouse’, crater-form construction from stones which was filled
with ice and served as a place to store food – cream, cheese,
butter), a basin for fish, a reservoir to water garden, a bread
oven...
A long time ago there was a pond in the forest nearby, too. It had several functions: to collect ice for glacière, take fish for basin and rinse the laundry.
Since the beginning of 1990ies, when organization started to inhabit the castle, the site hasn’t much developed. However, a new camping-type sanitary bloc has been constructed, permitting to host groups in summer season. There are also nature trails in the forest to discover flora and fauna and follow the water circulation and utilization in the last century.
